Introduction
The love of coffee is growing by the day. For many, it is not just a beverage choice, but an art form that encourages curiosity and passion. Learning to make the perfect espresso is one of the most sought-after skills you can develop as a Barista. At Logies op Dreef we offer a unique Barista Workshop that helps you master the basics of espresso making. Why is this workshop so valuable for beginners? Let's discover that together.
What is a Barista Workshop?
A barista workshop is a hands-on class that teaches you everything you need to know about brewing perfect coffee, from selecting the right beans, docking, tamping to extraction and assessing the result. The goal is to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to make their own delicious espresso.
This is not just a class where you get behind a coffee machine stands, but rather an experience where you can experiment and get feedback from experienced baristas. This makes this workshop ideal for avid coffee lovers and novice baristas!
Benefits of participating in a barista workshop include:
- Exercise in a hands-on environment: It is the perfect opportunity to learn a lot in a short period.
- Instant feedback: I offer you personal guidance in this, so you can improve immediately.
- Improved knowledge and skills: Learn not only how to make espresso, but also about how to choose the right equipment to suit your preferences.
Michiel not only offers a familiar environment, but also a great opportunity during your stay at Guesthouse Logies op Dreef passing on to you that little extra bit of enthusiasm and perseverance in making your perfect espresso.
The process of making the perfect espresso
Now that you know more about what to expect from a barista workshop, let's look at the process of making a perfect espresso. There are a few essential steps to follow:
- Selecting the right beans: Choose fresh, high-quality beans. The quality of your coffee beans is crucial to good espresso.
- Grinding the beans: Grinding the coffee is just as important as the beans themselves. For an espresso, the grind should be very fine. This encourages proper extraction and ensures a full flavor.
- Using the espresso machine: Here comes the magic. Discover how the machine works, set the temperature, and learn how to use the right amount of coffee and water for a perfect extraction in 25 to 30 seconds.
- Judging the espresso: Of course, a good espresso cannot be made without creamy texture. Learn what to watch for and what to change to get even closer to your perfect espresso with tiger stripes and such syrupy as our honey.

The combination of all these elements forms the basis for a delicious espresso. As you gain more experience, you can continue to experiment with different operations and techniques yourself at home. With the right guidance from Michiel, we can help you take your skills to the next level.
What to expect from the Workshop
During our workshop, you'll get a hands-on experience that goes beyond just brewing coffee. Here are some central elements you can expect:
- Practical session: The workshop is mainly practical. You will learn by doing it yourself, with fresh coffee beans, catering grinder and semi-professional espresso machine with an e-61 group at your disposal.
- Direct feedback and guidance from the host: Michiel shares his experiences and tips, contributing to a learning and inspiring experience. His enthusiasm for coffee is contagious and will really motivate you to practice.
- Feedback sessions and tastings: During and after you make your espressos, you get immediate feedback. This is a very valuable part of the workshop. Tasting coffee and comparing it to other beans helps develop your palate, and allows you to see what is good and what can be improved.
- Scheduling and duration: The barista workshop takes 1.5 hours and can be scheduled during your stay between 16.00 and 11.00 the next day before your departure. Would you like to follow this workshop prior to your stay at Logies op Dreef then you can select the option 'early check in' select then it is possible to schedule the Barista workshop starting at 1 p.m.

After you've mastered the basics, it's time to develop your own techniques. We encourage everyone to be creative and find their own style!

Recommendations for Home
After participating in our Barista Workshop, we want to ensure you can apply the knowledge and skills you've acquired at home. Here are some helpful tips for maintaining your coffee equipment and making the perfect espresso at home.
Maintenance of your Coffee Equipment
It is essential to properly maintain your equipment to ensure the quality of your coffee. Here are some steps you can follow:
Cleaning the espresso machine: Be sure to clean your machine regularly. This not only helps maintain a great taste, but also prevents limescale build-up, which can damage the machine.
Daily inspection: Check the parts of your machine daily. Make sure the filters are clean and that there is no coffee or milk residue left behind. This will prolong the life of your machine.
Disinfection: We recommend disinfecting your machine and accessories periodically. You can do this with special cleaning agents geared for this purpose.

Best Practices for Home
In addition to maintaining your equipment, we also want to share some methods you can use to make the best coffee at home yourself. Consider:
Experiment with beans: Try different coffee beans to discover what your favorite flavor is. Each type of bean has unique characteristics depending on its origin.
Grind the beans just before use: For best taste, grind your coffee beans just before brewing. This helps preserve the aromas and flavors.
Use good, filtered water: The quality of the water you use is just as important as the beans themselves. Filtered water helps remove impurities and provides a cleaner taste.
Coffee is not just a beverage; it is an experience. Every time you make coffee, you make a unique set of choices that lead to an experience that is all yours. We are confident that the skills you have learned with us will enable you to create a great coffee experience no matter where or when you make it.
Experiences of Participants
To give you a better idea of how our workshop helped participants, we'd like to share a few experiences sharing that we have received from previous participants. They often tell us about their growth in knowledge and technique, as well as the self-confidence they have gained:
"Thanks to the workshop, I finally learned how to perfect my espresso. Before, I found it difficult, but now I know which beans to choose and how to grind them. It was a great experience!"
It is always a pleasure to see the positive impact our workshop has on people. It motivates me to offer everyone a unique experience at Logies op Dreef.
